Obos Eiendom is betting on more cyclists to the centres
Safe bicycle parking has long been in demand from customers at the three Obos centers in Manglerud, Tveita and Lambertseter. Many are reluctant to use expensive bicycles, and therefore end up using the car. Now smart bicycle lockers can reverse the trend.
Obos Eiendom wants to contribute to environmentally friendly shopping habits. This time it is how the customers get to the shopping centers that is the purpose. With the Bikely app, cyclists can pre-book and park in a dedicated bike locker. Here, the bike stays safe during the shopping trip, and there are pegs to hang shopping bags from. Because many people have expensive bicycles, bicycle theft is a real problem that causes many to choose less environmentally friendly alternatives.
- We strongly believe that Bikely will be well received by visitors to our shopping centres. We want to deliver on all requirements, and safe bicycle parking is both in demand by customers and a concrete environmentally friendly measure, says Kirandip Kaur who is assistant center manager at Obos Eiendom.
Cycle parking costs NOK 10 an hour, and for many can be a reasonable insurance against bicycle theft. Obos Eiendom has the largest investment in smart bicycle lockers among Norwegian shopping centres. They are also in the driver's seat of safe bicycle parking in Oslo with the three new locations.
Smart bicycle lockers for Manglerud and Lambertseter Senter
With smart bicycle lockers, Lambertseter and Manglerud Senterlangt become more accessible for those with bicycles.
- We see that more customers travel to and from by electric bicycle. The bicycle lockers also give this group a safer and more comfortable shopping trip, sees Silje Nordgård Aspen.
Lambertseter and Manglerud Senter are two of the first to offer Bikely in Oslo and are part of an overall initiative in Oslo and Viken. A total of five new shopping centers will offer Bikely in October. The solution has previously been deployed at Majorstuen, CC Vest and at Økern subway.
- This autumn, many people will be offered safe bicycle parking with Bikely when they shop at shopping centers in Oslo. This is part of our growth strategy, says Marketing Manager Ellen Loxley at Bikely.
Bikely is active in twenty Norwegian municipalities, in shopping centers all over the country and approximately 12,000 users have downloaded the app. The company works to move the world in a sustainable direction; and then a bicycle is the preferred means of transport.
