This is how you can safely charge your electric bike at home
Charging electronic equipment is becoming increasingly frequent in everyday life. With a record number of e-bikes on the market, many Norwegians charge their e-bike batteries at home. By following these steps, the problem can be effectively prevented and managed.

In the spring of 2021, the electric car association estimated that the market in Norway consisted of around 400,000 electric bicycles. Since then, sales have only continued to grow, and stocks are sold out for several models. The e-bikes are powered by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries which are vulnerable to damage from shocks and impacts, and this can quickly occur if you do not treat the equipment with care. This requires a number of precautions when charging to avoid accidents and cases of fire.
We have made a small to-do list:
1. Read the user manual before charging
2. Do not use unbranded batteries
3. Do not charge while sleeping or away from home
4. Do not charge a damaged battery
5. Clean the battery
6. Charge the battery in a steel cabinet with ventilation - for example a Bikely cabinet https://www.bikely.no/no/home< 7. Charge the battery in plus degrees - At 0°C you lose around 20 percent of
available capacity. At -20°C, you can lose up to 50 percent
battery capacity*2.

This is what you do if a fire breaks out
If there is an accident, it is important to remove the product from flammable surroundings - if possible. Unplug the charger from the socket. Do not flush burning batteries with water - this can worsen the situation. The fire in the battery, on the other hand, can be kept in check by sending the battery into a water bath3. Many lithium batteries contain a flammable liquid which, when sufficiently heated, emits a flammable gas. The battery will therefore catch fire again if it is not cooled down. If a fire occurs that you have no control over, you must call the fire service on 110.
