The success in Tonsberg Municipality

Tonsberg invests further in bike lockers - and they are well used!

Tonsberg invests further in bike lockers - and they are well used!

About two years ago, Tonsberg municipality invested in the first Bikely bike lockers. Then the first twenty lockers were placed at Farmann Square in Tonsberg city center and in Prestegaten by Tonsberg Pier. Since then, Tonsberg has arranged for cyclists with 44 lockers. The bike lockers offer safe bike parking, prevent bike thefts and increase bike use.

This measure is a follow-up to the mobility plan and bike city agreement with Vestfold and Telemark county council, and is financially supported by the county council.

For cyclists, parking costs 10kr for up to 12 hours, then 10 kr every 12 hours. This pricing model is common at all five locations in Tonsberg. The idea behind the pricing is for residents to choose bikes over cars.

Solid numbers

In two years, the Bikely lockers have been parked over 4500 times!

The lockers in Tonsberg can be said to have a loyal user group. Cyclists are often the same, with 64% of users having parked more than once.

Different locations for different needs

Tonsberg has 44 bike lockers at 5 different locations today, and we see that usage at the locations is different. Different locations satisfy different needs of the cyclist, whether it be commuting, cycling to work or dinner at a restaurant. At Tonsberg Station, the most popular parking time is in the morning, at the square it is during working hours and at the pier it is in the afternoon. In other words, the bike is used in Tonsberg for different purposes!

It is hard to find a safer bicycle parking

For a single crown, cyclists in Sandefjord get access to safe parking for a full 12 hours. It is Sykkelbyen Sandefjord that is behind the new offer with ten smart bicycle lockers deployed at the square in Sandefjord. And the cabinets - they will be opened by the mayor on 27 August.
